Where Yesterday's Legends Meet Today's Smoke

A Civil War–era inn reborn as a home for hickory, hospitality, and a hint of mystery.

The Huron River Inn has been around longer than most family recipes—born in 1860, back when whiskey was three cents a glass and the Civil War was the hottest ticket in town. The place started as Burton Manor, quickly becoming a watering hole for salesmen, hunters, and anyone who could pay in coins instead of chickens.

Through the years it’s worn many hats—tavern, hotel, brothel, and now a BBQ haven—but the walls still whisper the past. Locals swear the Rockwood Hotel (its spooky alter ego) remains haunted. Visitors have reported mysterious footsteps, doors opening on their own, and the faint scent of cigar smoke or a ghostly cologne that doesn’t come in a spray bottle. And if you spot a woman in a bonnet and white dress, don’t worry—she’s not judging your rib order.

Today, the Inn has traded candlelit séances for slow-smoked brisket, and nightly the pit masters work their magic, letting the smoke creep through the meat the way old legends creep through these walls. Haunted or not, the only spirits you need to worry about here are the ones behind the bar—and maybe that extra shot of bourbon you swore you weren’t going to order.

So come hungry, stay curious, and remember: at the Huron River Bar-B-Q, history is alive, the ghosts are friendly, and the BBQ is smoked low and slow every single night.

Five stars from folks who know their way around a smoker.

John!
This place always knocks it out of the park! Easily the best BBQ south of Detroit and they do rotating bourbon specials as well! The building has a ton of history to it and the staff has always been attentive and friendly every time we've been here.

This place is absolutely incredible! The food, staff, environment, and owners are the best. They are a hard-working family who cares about their customers and food quality. We dined with our family and kids, and we all loved everything, from the brisket to the cornbread to the max and cheese. As a bonus, we got to meet the owner, who is so kind and so welcoming. Thank you so much, Huron River Inn BARbq! ♥️🥰

First visit to this establishment. We ordered carry out and we were not disappointed. The food is ah-mazing! My man ordered the double fister. The brisket was incredible and meat fell off the ribs. I ordered the brisket quesadilla and it too was incredible. Just the right balance of brisket and cheese. The customer service was also awesome. Pleasant and easy ordering. Took the time to confirm the order was right before we left. Would've taken pics but we inhaled the food too fast. . Would recommend corn on the cob and more dessert choices but these are not deal breakers. Definitely, absolutely, going back!

I was just having an argument with a friend a few weeks ago about some of the best burgers downriver. I pick joes, he picks drinks, but this place wins. In my 8 years in Rockwood I have never been here. I will be back for more burgers. 10/10.

We celebrated my Mom's 80th Birthday at the Huron River Inn and had a wonderful time. Great staff and food. Thanks for the great service, and making Mom's Birthday so enjoyable.
